day 4

a little bit of everything

we started with coffee (moccona - which usually is so not my scene - it was caramel flavoured, so pour me another cup, joe) and BACON AND EGGS.

then we headed over to our new office-digs for a quick introduction.  a meeting with an agenda got me back in the work-mindset and we were successfully presenting on the projects we hadn't yet started.  so, people know our faces now and know that we'll be around Hope Vale for a few weeks at least.  but I still haven't met Pastor Dave.

as plans fell into place, we got out of town and visited ARCHER POINT (note the use of CAPS here is me screaming at you because this space was one of the most beautiful I have ever witnessed in my travels) and got some important Captain James Cook history in Cooktown.  the natural beauty had me wondering why we even bothered with Sydney harbour, the Cape is the goods my frands.

to wrap this up, today was another day to listen, to who I am and how I sound as a person, and to the wonderful people I am getting the opportunity to learn from and maybe even support.  because it's not that I had real misconceptions around the capacity and strength of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders that live up here in the Cape, it's that the people I am meeting are so talented, so driven and so beautiful that my opinions have been elevated.  there is so much we can learn from Cape, whether it's family, community and culture, or place-based solutions that change lives.  and maybe even how to find those tasty green ants or cook a delicious stingray (it's not the season for either right now, i'm afraid).

from tomorrow I'll be offline for a few days (but I'll keep a pen and paper journal and transcribe my notes for you because I am that dedicated).  we're gonna miss the Hope Vale pig hunt, but we will get to camp all proper-like (yep, not glamp like I am used to.  shovel-and-toilet-paper kind of camping).
